Guided Dental Implant Surgery in Timonium, MD

Less Pain, Fast Healing Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implants have revolutionized modern dentistry by providing patients with a long-lasting and effective solution for missing teeth. At our periodontal practice, we offer guided dental implant surgery services that utilize advanced technology, such as 3D imaging and computer-guided planning, to ensure greater accuracy and precision during the implant placement process. This results in less pain and faster healing times for our patients.

We provide personalized care for each patient, taking into account their unique needs and objectives. We use only the highest quality dental implants and materials to ensure long-term oral health.

During your consultation, we will examine your mouth and discuss your options for tooth replacement, providing you with a detailed overview of the guided implant surgery process and addressing any concerns you may have.

We prioritize safety, comfort, and effectiveness in our guided implant surgery services.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of the latest techniques and technology in implant dentistry, ensuring that you receive the highest quality care.

How Guided Implant Surgery Works

Guided implant surgery starts with a 3D scan of your jaw. Using that scan, your periodontist plans exactly where each implant should go, taking into account the bone, nearby nerves, sinuses and the neighboring teeth. The plan is then used to place the implant along a precise, pre-planned path.

Because the position is decided before surgery, the procedure is usually more predictable and often requires smaller openings in the gums than free-hand placement.

When Is Guided Implant Surgery Recommended?

Guided placement can be helpful in many cases, especially when precision matters most. Your periodontist may recommend it when:

  • You are replacing several teeth or planning a full-arch restoration
  • The bone is limited and the implant must be positioned carefully
  • An implant needs to sit close to a nerve or sinus
  • You want a treatment plan that is mapped out before the day of surgery

It is not needed for every patient. We will tell you at your consultation whether it fits your situation.

Comfort During and After Surgery

The area is numbed with local anesthesia, so you should feel pressure but not pain. If dental visits make you anxious, we offer oral sedation and IV sedation to help you stay relaxed.

Afterward, mild swelling and soreness are normal for the first few days. Cold packs, rest, soft foods and the medication your periodontist recommends keep most patients comfortable. You will receive written aftercare instructions, and our team is available if you have questions while you heal.

Healing and Timing

The gums typically settle within the first week or two. The implant then needs time to bond with the jawbone before the final tooth is attached, and your periodontist will give you a timeline based on your own bone and treatment plan.

If you need a bone graft, a sinus augmentation or a tooth extraction first, that step is planned in order so the implant goes in at the right time. Learn more in our guide to guided and non-guided implant surgery.
